By Pierre LeBrun | ESPN.comWe'll try not to get blinded by all the Stanley Cup bling in this year's Western Conference finals, what with the 2010 and 2012 NHL champions meeting up in a tantalizing matchup. The Chicago Blackhawks, champs in '10, have ruled since Day 1 in this lockout-shortened season. The Los Angeles Kings are the reigning champs after romping a year ago. There's star power galore as Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp, Marian Hossa, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook of the Blackhawks share the ice with Mike Richards, Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter, Dustin Brown, Drew Doughty and Jonathan Quick of the Kings. Many of them will be in Sochi, Russia, next February for the Olympics as well, where Toews, Sharp, Keith and Seabrook could possibly join up with Richards, Carter and Doughty on Team Canada, while Brown and Quick could possibly pal up with Kane on Team USA. Right now, though, their alliances are clear as day. One NHL team stands in front of the other with a trip to the Cup finals on the line. Both clubs are catching their breath after needing seven games to survive the second round, with little time to spare as Game 1 looms Saturday afternoon at the United Center. The two teams last met in the playoffs in 1974, when the Hawks prevailed in five games.
1. Quicksand in net
Where do pucks go to die? Into Quick's equipment. The Kings netminder has stopped 362 of 382 shots in the playoffs for a .948 save percentage, which amazingly is a tad better than the .946 save percentage he sported last spring while winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as NHL playoff MVP. He was the difference in a hotly contested series with the San Jose Sharks in the last round, capping a great series with a late-game save on Joe Pavelski, which said it all. "It's not like you expect him to make those saves, but you expect him to make those saves, right?"' Kings captain Dustin Brown said after Game 7. Expect the Hawks to take a page out of San Jose's playbook and try to get Quick unsettled as much as possible by crashing the net. The refs will be on the lookout for that tactic early, however, so expect goalie interference to be an early storyline in this series. The Kings clearly have the edge in goal, with Corey Crawford giving the Hawks decent goaltending overall this season, though he did show jitters at times during the seven-game series with Detroit.
2. Doughty vs. Keith
Olympic teammates in 2010, Doughty and Keith will log team-leading minutes once again in the conference finals, with each being a staple in all facets of the game for their respective teams. And the game plan from each team will include targeting each star blue-liner: pound them every time you have a chance on the forecheck, and wear them down as much as possible. Doughty and Keith might as well both have signs on their uniforms saying "Hit me please."
3. Kings' road woes
A year ago, the Kings were road warriors, opening all four series in opposing rinks and amazingly coming home with a 2-0 series lead from Vancouver, St. Louis, Phoenix and New Jersey. What a difference a season makes. The Kings are 1-5 on the road in these playoffs, a meek performance that got them in a 2-0 hole in the first round versus the St. Louis Blues and made them play a seventh and deciding game in the second round against the San Jose Sharks after dropping all three games (and scoring only three goals) on the road. "Obviously, if we're going to be able to continue in the playoffs we have to win some road games," Quick said after Game 7. "We got to figure out what's going on there. We got to get better at it. We had a chance to close it out [in Game 6 in San Jose]. Sometimes if you give those games up, it might come back and bite you. We were able to win [Game 7], but we definitely know there's room for improvement." Given the Hawks have home-ice advantage in the Western final, it's pretty simple for L.A.: find a cure for the road woes or the season is over.
4. Stoll's return
The Kings played the final six games of their second-round series without No. 3 center Jarret Stoll, who suffered a concussion on a heavy hit from Raffi Torres (who was suspended for the series as a result). Should Stoll remain symptom-free and avoid setbacks, he could return early on against the Blackhawks. That'd be a huge boost for the Kings. Stoll is a glue guy for Los Angeles, a luxury to have as a No. 3 pivot, a faceoff whiz, and a special teams staple.
5. Hawks' adversity
It's the madness of the game, really. Veteran hockey men always talked about how uncomfortable they were with teams that breezed through a regular season as wire-to-wire leaders. Most coaches will tell you they like their team to face a little adversity along the way in order to strengthen the resolve of the team when things get tougher in the playoffs, as they always do given the higher level of competition. It's why some were a little nervous about the Blackhawks entering the playoffs after an impeccable regular season in which they had nothing to play for over the final month. Those fears proved well-founded after the Hawks dug themselves a 3-1 series hole against Detroit, seeming a little unhinged as they faced their first real adversity of the season after losing three games in a row for the first time all year. But Chicago rose back from the brink with its season on the line, winning the final three games against the Red Wings and very possibly providing the galvanizing moment the Hawks were looking for. They might be hard to stop now.
'��The goalie matchup makes you a bit nervous for Chicago, but the Kings are a beat-up squad that isn't rolling like a year ago. Still, I see this going all the way. Blackhawks in 7.

The game had started at breakneck speed and there was no let-up as play swung from end to end in the blink of an eye, with opportunities coming thick and fast. Around the half-hour both sides had a one-on-one, yet neither could capitalise as the two keepers expertly narrowed the angle; first Weidenfeller advanced to repel Robben, before Lewandowski was again thwarted by Neuer's legs. With half-time fast approaching, the ball fell between Mats Hummels and Robben and broke kindly for the Bayern man; again Weidenfeller was well positioned to make the save at close range, albeit with his face.
The half-time interval did not serve to break the rhythm of the match, which picked up in exactly the same breathless manner following the resumption. Chances proved rarer, however�'� until Bayern struck on the hour. Robben and Ribéry were the architects, swapping passes down the left and the Dutchman's low cross presented Mandžukić with a tap-in.
For a moment Dortmund were rocking, yet they regrouped and were level within eight minutes. Dante felled Reus in the area; Gündoğan held his nerve to send Neuer the wrong way from the spot. Even without John Riccitiello at the helm of gaming's publishing equivalent of the Titanic, there is still someone at the offices of Electronic Arts who will pick up a how-to guide and re-enact the ability to place both feet firmly in their mouth. Well, that last line refers to EA's CTO, Rajat Teneja, who stated that the Xbox One and PS4 were a generation ahead of the most top-end gaming PCs thanks to their cloud technology. To that, Epic Games' Vice President Mark Rein says 'bullsh*t'.The original article was so ridiculous most gamers just laughed it off. I mean, really? What else can you do? Mark Reins, one of the head honchos at Epic Games, decided to douse the claim on Twitter and simply said 'No they're not. I call bullshit on this one.'
It didn't take the VP for one of the most established and high-end graphics engine companies to rain down on EA's little propaganda claim, but all in all it at least helps clear the air of any rabid fanboy who may have latched onto the claim and tried spreading the (mis)information like wildfire.
As we've noticed even now, Microsoft is giving it 110% in their marketing spin department to twist and misconstrue their own words regarding the Xbox One's used game fees.
I'm glad Rein called out EA on this because it's a typical PR spin to rouse interest in a product in order raise anticipation and potential market valuation, and we all know EA could use some of that right now.
In fact, Electronic Arts almost gained brownie points for killing off the Online Pass program, but then it was later revealed that it would be replaced with Microsoft's Azure cloud initiative that would prevent the easy trade-in, swapping or selling of used games without authorization or license transference from the ACI. In simple terms, EA could afford to give up the Online Pass because the Azure would effectively kill the traditional method of used game sales as they stand today.
Don't be surprised to see more comments (some truthful, many not) regarding the next gen consoles as we near launch, especially from companies who desperately need to change their image around.

When the Bruins got off to such a strong start in Game 4 in New York only to give the game away in the 4-3 overtime loss, their disappointment was palpable over not closing out the series.
However, the Bruins insisted those frustrations would not carry over into tonight's Game 5 and the bad momentum created from Thursday night won't affect them.
'It happens,' Johnny Boychuck said of the Game 4 loss. 'There's been times when we shouldn't have won and we did. '� We've just got to do the same things that we have.'
Daniel Paille chalked up the loss to a lesson learned on staying on the Rangers for the full 60 minutes.
'I think it's just not to let up,' Paille said. 'We let up a goal and it gave them some life. They really put the pressure on us from then on. '� For us, it's about putting the pressure on them as much as we can.'
Patrice Bergeron stressed the need to maintain the team's style of play for another quick start in Game 5.
'Being hard on the forecheck, being first on pucks and re-establishing what we do, our style, our system, our way,' Bergeron said. 'We have to stick to the system, stick to the plan and do that for the whole game.'
Overall, there was no sense of satisfaction from the way the Bruins outplayed the Rangers for much of Game 4, just a need to finish the job this time.
'We shouldn't be satisfied with what happened last game,' Shawn Thornton said. 'You know (the Rangers') backs are against the wall and they're going to be giving everything they have, so we're going to have to be better tonight, that's for sure.'

Former Union minister and ex-Madhya Pradesh CM Vidya Charan Shukla was seriously injured with three bullet wounds. TV images showed Shukla on the ground, his face blood-splattered and huge blotches of blood on his abdomen. He was first taken to a hospital in Jagdalpur and later flown to Raipur where doctors described his condition as "very critical". Local leaders said party vice-president Rahul Gandhi was expected to reach Raipur late Saturday night before Shukla is shifted to Delhi by an air ambulance.
State Congress President chief Nand Kumar Patel and his son Dinesh went missing from the spot after the attack and were suspected to have been abducted by the Maoists, sources said. They were travelling with Sukma Congress legislator Kawasai Lakma, who was injured in the attack. Nand Kumar and Dinesh jumped out of the car and were not seen thereafter.
The group of Congress leaders and party workers were ambushed at Darba Ghati valley around 5.30pm as they were driving out of the rebel stronghold of Sukma in Bastar district towards Jagdalpur after attending a rally as part of Parivartan Yatra to kick off party's campaign for the assembly polls. Police said that some cars leading the convoy hit land mines and then the entire convoy came under a hail of gunfire as more than 150 combatants ringed them.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reviewed the situation with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders. The PM called up chief minister Raman Singh to offer para-military reinforcements. The CM had returned to Raipur, cancelling his Vikas Yatra, to hold an emergency meeting of the state cabinet.
Karmaji is no more. We don't have any more details", a close relative told TOI over telephone while police officers and government officials tried to get details on learning about the massacre. Sources said Karma was dragged out of his vehicle along with his PSO and shot dead.
A local television correspondent Naresh Mishra, who was at the remote ambush spot, said he saw bullet ridden bodies of Karma, former Congress legislator Uday Mudaliyar and more than 10 other bodies. It took security reinforcements several hours to reach the spot as they had to walk for fear that land mines had been planted on the road leading to the area. It standard procedure for Maoists to plant mines in and around such spot of attacks to target security forces rushing for rescue and relief operations. Former MLA and prominent tribal leader Phulo Devi Netam werer among the wounded.
The attack on opposition Congress leaders came a day before the bandh called by the Maoists to protest against the May 17 killings of eight tribals, including three children, by the security forces during an anti-Naxalite operation.
Mahendra Karma, who had spearheaded the controversial anti-Naxalite movement Salwa Judum since 2005, was on Maoist hit-list and survived several attempts on his life. Few months ago, Karma escaped unhurt when Maoists triggered a powerful landmine blast targeting his vehicle.
Meanwhile, opposition Congress blamed the state government for the incident alleging that it did not provide adequate security to the 'Parivartan Yatra', despite having specific information that the Maoists could target mainstream political parties and its leaders' political campaigns ahead of the next assembly elections.
Former CM Ajit Jogi called for a statewide bandh after meeting the governor along with party leaders.

A picture is worth a thousand words '� and sometimes much more when angry fans get involved. While Hollywood stars are notorious for tweeting offensive or inappropriate things that get their foes and followers in a frenzy, it seems more and more stars are learning their lessons on photo sharing social networking applications.
Last week, Miranda Kerr posted a behind-the-scenes picture of herself, via Instagram, on a photo shoot with New York-based fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco, his muscular arms tightly wrapped around the cleavage-bearing supermodel. She then tweeted the picture. But with rampant rumors of her troubled marriage to Orlando Bloom already a tabloid hot topic, the seemingly innocent snap didn't sit well with her fans.

'I don't think she respects her husband at all,' commented one, as another questioned: 'You're husband [wasn't] jealous when he saw this pic?'
Others did, however, leap to her defense.
'Chill out guys, it's just a hug,' one responded, with another weighing in: 'maybe she doesn't like to post photos of her with Orlando as she likes to keep that part of her life private.'
A rep for Kerr declined to comment on the controversy.�
However, the former Victoria's Secret Angel is far from being the first high-profile person to drum up debate via Instagram.
'Celebrities sometimes forget that a posting on Instagram is no different than making a comment to a camera. Though celebrities often think twice before running their mouths, they don't take a second to think before posting [online]. There's no filter. And that could be a problem for many of them,' Glenn Selig of Selig Multimedia told FOX411's Pop Tarts column. 'It used to be publicists could control the message and their clients, but these social media sites make it possible for celebrities to have direct contact with the public and they get themselves into trouble.'
Chris Brown was forced to shut down his Instagram this year in the wake of intense backlash which stemmed after an alleged brawl with fellow entertainer Frank Ocean, which prompted him to upload a depiction of Jesus being crucified, along with the caption: "Painting the way I feel today. Focus on what matters!"
His on again/off again girlfriend Rihanna too came under fire for posting a picture of herself with a young boy on her lap along with the caption: "My little n---a."
'The word is derogatory,' fumed a follower. 'If some cultures aren't allowed to say it, no one should.'
Soulja Boy recently enkindled a firestorm with his self-taken Instagram snaps of apparent weed and bottles of the addictive codeine based liquid promethazine, known as 'sizzrup,' just days after fellow rapper Lil Wayne.
'So you think you're 'cool' because you're addicted to drugs? Work on your rapping skills before you have a seizure,' fumed one fan.
Furthermore, Justin Bieber was slammed for his underage beer drinking pics during his world tour in South Africa, and Fantasia Barrino was widely condemned for a fan perceived "anti-gay" Instagram posting.
'It's a lot going on that the Bible speaks about we should not be doing. Weed legal in some places. Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you'� My Life!!!' she wrote. �A rep for the season three 'American Idol' winner later insisted that the comments were 'taken far out of context.'
'We have worked with many celebrities where we have literally had to change their passwords to not allow them access to their social media accounts for fear of what they would say and do,' admitted New York-based publicity guru Ronn Torossian of 5WPR. 'For corporations and celebrities, social media can be a big upside '� or a complete disaster.'
Then there's the nudity factor. Instagram's 'community guidelines' state that users should not 'share photos that show nudity or mature content.'
Actresses Annalynne McCord and Alison Pill generated attention when they '� accidentally '� published topless pictures of themselves. Yet others dare to bare, well aware (and perhaps) amused by the social networking rules.
Earlier this year, Sports Illustrated model Chrissy Teigen celebrated a 200,000 Instagram followers milestone with a naked photo of herself amid a spray tan.
'If this doesn't get me suspended I dunno what will,' she wrote gleefully. The NSFW pic later disappeared.
Actress and entrepreneur Yvonne Gold hit back at the hoopla over the hoopla surrounding her nipple-revealing promotional shot for her 'House of Gold' movie, Ke$ha came under the wrath for uploading a nude snap of her own donning nothing but a bracelet to plug her new jewelry line, and notoriously racy Madonna posted her warning letter from Instagram officials regarding her bottom-baring, cleavage-close ups photographs.
'Social networking gone bad can damage careers and alienate fans because it can shatter the image fans have of that celebrity, ones that are often carefully orchestrated by hours of media training and skilled publicists, ' cautioned entertainment reporter and publicist, Jennifer Birn.
But until our favorite celebs start hiring experts we can likely expect'�and even hope for'�more of these constant social media blunders.

The two suspects, aged 22 and 28, are under guard in hospitals after being shot and arrested by police following the murder of 25-year-old Afghan war veteran Lee Rigby on Wednesday in broad daylight. They have not yet been charged.
Detectives were also questioning another man and a woman, arrested on Thursday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, as they tried to determine whether those responsible had links to militants in Britain or overseas."This is a large, complex and fast-moving investigation which continues to develop," police said in a statement.
"Many lines of inquiry are being followed by detectives, and the investigation is progressing well."
One of the assailants, filmed justifying the killing as he stood near the body holding a knife and meat cleaver in bloodied hands, was named by acquaintances as 28-year-old Londoner Michael Adebolajo, a British-born convert to Islam.
Little is known so far about the other man.
The murder, just a month after the Boston Marathon bombing and the first Islamist killing in Britain since local suicide bombers killed 52 people in London in 2005, revived fears of "lone wolves" who may have had no direct contact with al Qaeda.
Police chiefs said they would have 1,200 extra officers on the streets in London overnight and at key locations such as religious venues and transport hubs.
"It will be assessed on a rolling basis depending on the picture. I'm sure there will be heightened numbers for a little while to come," a spokesman said.
A source close to the investigation told Reuters the attackers were known to Britain's MI5 internal security service, raising questions about whether it could have been prevented. Adebolajo had handed out radical Islamist pamphlets, but neither was considered a serious threat, a government source said.
Another source close to the inquiry said the local backgrounds of the suspects in a multicultural metropolis - nearly 40 percent of Londoners were born abroad - and the simplicity of the attack made prevention difficult.
"Apart from being horribly barbaric, this was relatively straightforward to carry out," the source said. "This was quite low-tech, and that is frankly pretty challenging."
Anjem Choudary, one of Britain's most recognized Islamist leaders, told Reuters Adebolajo was known to fellow Muslims as Mujahid - a name meaning 'fighter': "He used to attend a few demonstrations and activities that we used to have in the past."
He added that he had not seen him for about two years: "He was peaceful, unassuming, and I don't think there's any reason to think he would do anything violent."
POLICE LOOKING FOR LINKS
The two men used a car to run down Drummer Rigby outside Woolwich Barracks in southeast London and then attacked him with a meat cleaver and knives, witnesses said.
The pair told shocked bystanders they acted in revenge for British wars in Muslim countries.
"We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you. The only reason we have done this is because Muslims are dying every day," Adebolajo was filmed saying by an onlooker. "This British soldier is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth."
Rigby, who had a two-year-old son, was not in uniform. The bandsman was working locally as an army recruiter.
"All he wanted to do from when he was a little boy was to be in the army," his family said in a statement. "He wanted to live life and enjoy himself."
In Nigeria, with a mixed Christian-Muslim population and where the authorities are battling an Islamist insurgency, a government source said there was no evidence the Woolwich suspects were linked to groups in west Africa.
British investigators are looking at information that at least one of the suspects may have had an interest in joining Somalia-based Islamist rebel group al Shabaab, which is allied to al Qaeda, a source with knowledge of the matter said.
Al Shabaab linked the attack to the Boston bombing and last year's gun attacks in the southern French city of Toulouse.
"Toulouse, Boston, Woolwich ... Where next? You just have to grin and bear it, it's inevitable. A case of the chickens coming home to roost!" the rebels said on Twitter.
Peter Clarke, who led the investigation into the 2005 bombings, popularly known as 7/7, said that if the Woolwich attackers did turn out to be acting alone, it showed the difficulty the security services faced in trying to stop them.
"An attack like this doesn't need sophisticated fund raising and sophisticated communications or planning," he told Reuters. "It can be organized and then actually delivered in a moment."

Blackhawks winger Bryan Bickell talks about the importance of Game 4 vs. the Red Wings on Thursday night.
Some unkind, impolite words shouldn't be the catalyst for Andrew Shaw to go from mere agitator to teeth-clenched, unrestrained, blinding rage.
"Yeah, that kind of stuff doesn't usually bother me," the Blackhawks forward said Wednesday. "I'm usually the one doing that."
But whatever it is that trips Shaw's wires, whatever provocation turns his aggressive play against him, the message was delivered from on high entering Game 4 against the Red Wings: Ignore it and do no harm.
To the Hawks, anyway. Shaw has logged a series-high 18 penalty minutes, 14 coming in Game 3 '� including a 10-minute misconduct in the waning seconds. After that, the coaching staff evidently redirected his attention to the line he can't cross.
"I took two (minor) penalties last game," Shaw said. "I hate taking penalties. It puts the team down. It kills the momentum we had going for us. They've talked to me about it. I have to keep doing what I'm doing but just stay on the right side of the line."
It's likely a lineup-wide challenge for the Hawks, who were introduced to a feisty, physical approach by the Red Wings in Game 2 and must respond without going to extremes.
What qualifies as extreme? Shaw skating into a scrum involving linemate Bryan Bickell and throwing a punch to the jaw of the Red Wings' Kyle Quincey in plain sight of officials. That earned him a roughing penalty that was easy to avoid.
"Shaw plays with energy, he goes into the hard areas and brings that passion to the game we like," coach Joel Quenneville said. "But he has to know there's a line that you make sure you travel and don't cross it.
"He pushes the envelope. He's not a big guy, so he has to find ways to keep pushing. At this time of the year, he'll do everything he can to try to make it work."
Some aggravation is understandable.
Shaw has been sent to the box for an elbow that, upon consulting a replay, connected with nothing but the glass. He was whistled for interference in Game 3 to negate a goal when replays showed he didn't appear to make contact with the Red Wings' Jimmy Howard.
"We were a little frustrated last game," Bickell said. "The calls were going their way. We just need to keep it positive going into (Game 4) and keep our sticks down and just play hard through the whistle."
It's a delicate balance with an indelicate job, playing rough and smart all at once.
"I just have to move forward and look past last game and just keep working hard and finishing my checks like I did," Shaw said. "Just keep the shoulders and hands down."

"Call of Duty: Ghosts" will be released as an Xbox One launch title along with some exclusive content for Microsoft's new console.
Turns out, the ghosts are indeed real. And they're coming to Microsoft's newly minted Xbox One in a big way.
Activision's first-person shooter "Call of Duty: Ghosts" will appear on the Xbox One as a launch title for the console, the publisher announced Tuesday at Microsoft's unveiling event for the next-generation video game hardware.
While "Call of Duty," like all of Activision's main console titles, will not be exclusive to either the Xbox One or Sony's rival console, the PlayStation 4, Microsoft has managed to sneak in a special deal for itself this time around. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players may both be able to play "Call of Duty: Ghosts" on their respective devices, but Xbox One users are going to get first pick for downloadable content (DLC).
It's unclear what, exactly, this will mean for "Call of Duty" players on either console. Historically, "Call of Duty" games have offered a single-player campaign and a handful of multiplayer options (including the infamous "Zombies" mode) from the outset. DLC is released periodically after the game's original launch, and mostly consists of peripheral additions such as new maps for multiplayer.
One of the new features that Activision revealed for "Ghosts" is the addition of customizable avatars for "Call of Duty's" popular multiplayer gameplay modes '� an interesting development that no doubt leaves the door open for countless updates and tweaks in the form of downloadable content.
For the most part, however, Activision and "Ghost" developer Infinity Ward focused on the single-player story '� except to note briefly that multiplayer maps will be made more "dynamic" than those offered in previous "Call of Duty" games thanks to the addition of real-time environmental conditions like earthquakes, floods, and the occasional player-triggered trap.
Activision publishing CEO Eric Hirschberg continually emphasized during today's event that "Ghost" will be a new "Call of Duty" game. The game will run on a brand new engine. The newfound storyline (Infinity Ward finished up the "Modern Warfare" series back in 2011) is being written by Stephen Gaghan, who previously worked on acclaimed politically-minded films like "Traffic" and "Syriana." There's a new A.I. system that will guide everything from player's enemies to the fish characters will swim by during the campaign.
"It will be the best Call of Duty game we've ever made," said Activision's Erik Hirschberg.
Oh, and there will be dogs. Plays will be able to travel around with life-like pooches (that were modeled off of real-world dogs, mind you) that can provide invaluable assistance by sniffing out explosives and generally being man's best (virtual) friend.
